An outdoor kitchen is masonry and it is heavy. It needs a base built to carry it, and it needs to be part of the patio layout from the start rather than added at the end.
We build the structure in block and face it in stone or veneer so it matches the rest of the hardscape, set the counter, and frame in the grill, the storage and whatever else goes under the counter.
The utilities are what separate a real outdoor kitchen from a grill sitting on a patio. A gas line has to be run properly. Power for lighting or a fridge has to be run properly. If you want a sink, the supply has to be drainable before winter or it will split.
All of it is far cheaper to run while the patio is open than to retrofit later. It is worth deciding up front even if you build it in phases.
