Turf earns its cost in the places where real grass keeps losing: deep shade under mature trees, steep slopes that wash out, small city yards, and pet areas that get worn to mud.
If you have a big sunny yard that grows grass fine, turf is an expensive answer to a problem you do not have. Aeration and overseeding would cost you far less. We would rather say that up front than sell you the wrong thing.
People assume turf is rolled out like carpet. It is not. Underneath it is the same excavation, stone base and compaction we put under a patio, because if the base moves, the turf ripples and you will see it.
Drainage is the part that gets skipped. Turf over clay with no drainage holds water underneath, and in a pet area that becomes a smell you cannot get rid of. We build it to drain.
We install premium commercial-grade artificial turf, and we deliberately do not tie ourselves to one manufacturer. We source through the distributor that fits the application, because residential lawns, commercial installations and putting greens are three different products.
That is a real distinction rather than a sales line. A pet run has to drain and needs an infill that handles odor. A putting green needs a short, tight face you can roll a ball across at a consistent speed. A front lawn needs to read as grass from the street. Buying to the application instead of to whatever brand we have a deal with is how you get all three right.
Our standard infill is washed silica sand. For pet areas we install an odor-control antimicrobial infill instead, which is the difference between a pet run you can live with and one you can smell in August.
Good artificial turf is built from the ground up, the same as a patio. Roll it over bare dirt and it ripples, holds water, and in a pet area it holds smell.
We excavate, lay a compacted crushed stone base, and grade it to drain, so water runs through the turf and out rather than sitting underneath. The turf itself is seamed and nailed or stapled down tight at the edges so it does not lift or shift.
Then it gets infilled. Infill is the sand or coated granule brushed down into the blades that keeps them standing up and weighs the turf down. Our standard is washed silica sand. For pet areas we use an odor-control antimicrobial infill instead, because that is where cheap turf jobs fail. Blade height and face weight, meaning how dense the turf is, are matched to the use: a putting surface, a pet run and a front lawn are not the same product.
You get a lawn that is green in August, takes no mowing, and does not turn to mud where the dog runs. No watering. No mowing. That is the pitch and it is true.
What you give up is a real lawn. Turf gets hot in direct summer sun, it has an up-front cost that real grass does not, and it will not last forever. If a real lawn is what you want, we do sod installation and lawn care as well, and we would rather point you there.

Artificial turf carries a five-year workmanship warranty on the installation. That is our part of the job: the excavation, the stone base, the grading, the seams and the edges.
The turf itself carries its own manufacturer warranty. That is separate from ours and it comes from whoever makes the product we spec for your job. Worth knowing the difference, because the two get blurred together in sales pitches.
Ours is the part underneath, which is exactly where turf installations actually fail: a base that was never compacted, seams that lift, an edge that was not fastened down properly. Five years is enough time for any of those to show up.
It depends on the yard. In deep shade, on a slope that washes out, in a small yard, or in a pet area worn to mud, it solves a problem real grass cannot. In a big sunny yard that grows grass fine, it is an expensive answer to a problem you do not have.
It does if it is built to. Underneath it is an excavated, stoned and compacted base, and over our clay soil the drainage has to be built in. Turf laid over clay with no drainage holds water, which is what causes odor problems in pet areas.
